Our pre-lunch break today finished with this idea, of how Mexicans and Japanese had many things to learn from each other. Like Mexican flexibility, and that natural ability of solving problems in the moment, their improvisation skills. Something that Japanese people know nothing about. From their hyper-regularized culture, prevention is the key for solutions, so every problem should be addressed with the perspective of anticipation. And this is what local internal employees and even suppliers are learning from them. Control, planning, order, versus flexibility, improvisation, originality. Sometimes, I feel, it’s a blessing for this country, that all the education —that the government doesn’t care to provide while the households have too many emergencies to deal with to even be aware of— is somehow given within the Japanese companies, because they have no other choice, in order to reach their desired productivity, not out of charity, that’s for sure, but given, nonetheless. And that, in exchange, Japanese workers get to be in contact with a completely foreign behavior, that drives them to rethink their core believes, those so established that are conceptualized as ‘common sense,’ ‘normal,’ or even ‘natural.’
